Calculation of quantity
Before starting your project, make sure you carefully calculate the quantity of material you will need. Here's how to do it:
- Calculate the area to be covered in square yards, by first taking your measurements in square feet and then dividing by 9.
- Add about 10% to the total in square yards. Some factors such as roll width and matching of patterns may introduce waste of 5 to 20%. The larger the room, the less waste there is.
- Multiply your result by the unit price of your selected product, adding the cost of installation, if any.
- Have your calculations verified by a specialist before ordering. This first step basically helps you draw up your budget.
Product cost
The price of carpet varies from $1 to $4 per square foot. Note that you should plan to install an underpadding to increase the comfort and durability of the carpet (ask your LANCTÔT representative).
Maintenance and care
Vacuum at least once weekly, making sure that the vacuum cleaner has good suction. In addition, have the carpet thoroughly cleaned professionally once a year. Carpets treated for stain resistance are much easier to clean and maintain.
Remove stains immediately
Most food and beverage stains can be removed in four easy steps.
- Remove most of what was spilled onto the carpet using a knife or spoon.
- Without RUBBING, blot the surface using an absorbent white cloth to withdraw as much liquid as possible.
- For liquid stains, use sparkling water as an emergency cleaning product (club soda or sparkling mineral water, but NOT SOFT DRINKS). Pour a bit of sparkling water onto the blotted stain, let it act for a minute, then blot again to remove the stain. NEVER RUB. Repeat as necessary.
- Delicately brush the fibres and allow to dry. If the stain remains, use the cleaning method recommended in the Canadian carpet institute's carpet maintenance and care guide.
