In 1883, when St. Isidore was only a tiny quiet village, Joseph-Aime Lanctot founded a general
store. His business very quickly became a brisk success. He was the general merchant typical of
the times and offered a very diversified range of products.
In 1920, Come Lanctot, the son of Joseph-Aime, made his entrance into the general store. Come
was a visionary who poured the fundamental principles of specialization into the products being
offered to the clientele at the time.
In 1940, Paul Lanctot, father of current president Denis Lanctot, joined the enterprise and his
talents as a salesman propelled the business to new heights.
In 1948, Andre Lanctot made his debut into the family business. Andre was the precursor of the
large-surface store which is Lanctot today. Under Andre's jurisdiction, a commercial division was
founded in 1975.
Come, Paul and Andre were the artisans of Lanctot's specialization in the world of floor-coverings.
In 1986, Denis, Louis and Michel - sons of Paul and Andre - took over the management of the
business. At that time Lanctot went through an unprecedented development period. This trio
proceeded to move the enterprise into a commercial complex consisting of connected sectors,
notably Ameublement Machabee and Portes et Fenetres Verdun. This move took place in an
exciting floor-covering market combined with a profound turnaround in the retail business.
In 1998, Michel supervised the implementation of a branch in Longueuil before he retired in 2001.
Since 2001, Louis and Denis have been operating the family business together. They have made
concrete and significant steps, both in the choice of products as well as in the layout of the store.
All of which reinforces Lanctot's mission of offering the vastest range of floor-coverings, and
positioning Lanctot as the Quebec leader in the floor-covering industry.
